Robbie Warke
I started climbing at Chudleigh Rocks in 1980. Since then, my love
of rock climbing has grown to take me from the wild sea cliffs of
Devon to multi-day ascents of big walls in far-flung places. I’ve
had the good fortune to climb on crags of every description around
the world. Since moving back to Devon, my wife Paula & I realised
that what we really wanted to be doing was running a climbing wall,
something every climber we have talked to feels is sorely needed
in this part of Devon. I aim to provide a facility that is built
by climbers, for climbers, but also keeps in mind that there are
lots of people out there who want to try climbing, and are the future
of the sport. Dart Rock Climbing Centre may be our business, but
we want it to be everyones’ climbing wall. I hope we can inspire
people to get the most from this fantastic sport.

I’ve always been more of a caver than a climber, and I probably
always will be. In fact, I’ve been caving in America for most
of my adult life. If I hadn’t met Robbie, I’d likely
never have done much more climbing than a few slimy slithers inside
caves. But since the sun does shine sometimes in the UK, I guess
the transition was inevitable. Lucky for me that Robbie has had
the patience to drag me up some of the most interesting crags in
England, Scotland, Wales, France and the states.

As a geologist and a professional consultant, I’m tasked with
a lot of the business responsibilities of running Dart Rock. But
we try to make as many decisions together as we can, from technical
and design requirements to accounting software and marketing materials.
Beginner to intermediate climbers will love the technical and interesting
routes I set below 6a+!
